JADE SEEKS SUPPLIES FOR CAMPBELL RIVER’S HOMELESS
While we can’t currently build new homes or shelters for our city’s homeless, a sleeping bag and a tent can provide warmth and shelter essential for survival, and can save a life.
Our first Annual Sleep Tight Campaign for the homeless in our community was launched in May 2008. The sleeping bag, tent, camping and care supplies obtained with your donations (about $100.00 per kit) will be hearth and home for those who are waiting to find permanent housing in our community. For most people in Campbell River, keeping warm is not an issue. When they are cold they can turn up their thermostat, or turn on their electric blanket.
Moreover, the outside elements would not affect them as they have a roof over their head. Not so for Campbell River’s homeless who live outdoors. Being cold hungry, tired and wet is a way of life, warmth and comfort is a luxury.
JADE’s goal is to provide for the dignity, comfort, security and safety for those who have no money to buy what they need, new or used, for “rough” sleeping. Your cash donations will provide for “Rough Sleeper’s Kits” including a tent, sleeping bag, tarp, flashlight, batteries, alarm clock, writing tablet and stamped envelopes, thick socks, underwear, first aid supplies, toiletries, rain ponchos, meal replacement drinks to help many homeless people who suffer from malnutrition, water, Gatorade, pop up canned food, fast food coupons, and a backpack for easy storage and carrying.
While we gratefully accept extremely good condition used sleeping bags and tents, your cash donation over ten dollars is tax deductable, and will allow us to purchase items and supplies in bulk for free distribution.
